John Hughson is Professor Emeritus of Visual Art and New Media at the State University of New York at Fredonia. He uses paint-and-draw applications. He received his BFA from Hull College of Art in England and his MFA from Tulane University in New Orleans, and his work has been exhibited extensively in the USA and abroad. He says, "My attitude is the same in computer-based work where I draw directly into the computer as in drawing and painting using traditional materials. Nothing is predetermined. The process of drawing leads to discoveries in content and imagery. I rely on spontaneous and 'gut reaction' responses throughout the creative process. This subjective approach has its own rhythm and intuitive logic and channels the operation of my actions. This process includes experimentation, speculation, and referencing my previous work in sketchbooks, drawings and paintings." He is at once a brilliant and dark colorist, and his art merges into the abstract with almost oriental lyricism.
