For many years fractal mathematicians and programmers have tried to give Mandelbrot fractals a 3D look but without much success. Now incorporating new mathematics and rendering technigues, they have largely succeeded in creating dynamic 3D fractals and animations. Here is a stunning example. Playing time almost seven minutes. All such work is based ultimately on the mathematics of Benoit Mandelbrot, French geometer, discoverer of the famous set of points named after him, and coiner of the word "fractal." Mandelbrot died in 2010.
