Apostolos
After the Midnight of a Faun
Apostolos was born Apostolos Panagopoulos in Thessalonica, North Greece, and was brought up in Athens, where
he began studying visual arts and theatre before moving permanently to The Netherlands.
At the University of Utrecht he studied the history of art, and after participating in a number of audiovisual projects
worked as art director in both film and theater, and as head teacher at the Academy of Arts of Utrecht. He is
an accomplished painter in oil tempera. These 15 images included here derive from a digital art series titled Omnimedial,
whose themes are largely classical, biblical, historical and mythical, not unmixed with a contemporary viewpoint.
He uses photo resources and various image and video processing computer programs, He writes, "My inspiration, sources and aims remain
always the same. I see myself not so much as a traditional painter but more as a storyteller... With an alphabet of
cultural memories, quotations from the past and signs of our everyday reality, I try to build up mirrors in which someone
could face The Human Condition."
