Digital Collage
Istvan Horkay
Persian Gymnast I
(1 of 12)

Istvan Horkay's art is cryptic, strange and powerful. He was born in 1945 in Budapest, Hungary, and practices his art there today. He has a broad education in the arts. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Budapest in 1964, later received a Master of Fine Arts in Cracow, Poland, and studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. He is a recipient of degrees in graphic arts, painting and animation.

He creates a virtual museum factory, and indeed his website is so identified. His is an art of collage: original drawn and painted images, appropriated masterpieces, photographs, emblems, logos--all digitally assembled and layered --and put to the service of a dark, fiercely- probing, and culture-ridden imagination.
