Moiré effects are created when two identical (usually transparent) patterns (such as closely spaced straight lines drawn radiating from a point or taking the form of a grid) are overlaid while displaced or rotated a small amount from one another.

Paul Gillard, a graphic artist in Devon, England, has taken this idea a step further and has animated this Moiré pattern in a Flash video.
