Jacqui Hewson

Jacqui Hewson (Wellington, New Zealand).

During Covid-19 lockdown at the end of our summer 2020, I started taking photos on my Android phone; snaps of things that I found pretty, interesting, unusual or maybe evocative. Focusing on detail that nature creates and displays so abundantly, I found myself carried away despite the uncertainty and worry of a global pandemic.

The square format is my choice for finished art or image cropping. Over 35 years my career was in tech systems and digital graphics - the challenge of working to a straightforward square appeals.

The encouragement of my partner-in-life Clay Bodvin (also on MOCA) has been a catalyst for getting arty at this point in my life.

My submission for MOCA Autogallery 2021 (my first) includes:

The series of 4 from "take 8 pieces":
These images are just as my phone camera snapped them, cropped to square and, I think, rather beautiful. I hope you enjoy these.
