"In these works I tried to combine digital techniques with a painterly sensibility to create new imagery that is also a continuation of traditional fine art. In the details one can see impasto brushstrokes reminiscent of Van Gogh, Bacon, Monet, or Auerbach. The imagery, on the other hand, is more contemporary: sci-fi television I grew up on; psychedelia; Youtube culture; my experience of living in Asia; philosophical quandaries (such as the nature of consciousness), and politics. In short, I try to make compelling new imagery with all the traditional visual-art qualities of color, composition, subject matter, meaning, and even texture."
